Ingredients

Custard Cream
01
1-2 teaspoons ceremonial grade matcha powder
02
1 tablespoon hot water (175°F/80°C)
03
For the brown sugar syrup:
04
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
05
1/4 cup water
06
1 cup milk of choice (dairy or plant-based)
07
1 cup ice cubes
08
Optional garnish:
09
Whipped cream
10
Matcha powder for dusting

Instructions

01
Make the brown sugar syrup by combining brown sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Let cool completely.
02
In a small bowl, add the matcha powder and hot water. Using a bamboo whisk or small regular whisk, mix in a zigzag motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and slightly frothy.
03
Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
04
Drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of the brown sugar syrup around the inside of the glass, allowing it to drip down the sides.
05
Pour the milk into the glass, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
06
Slowly pour the matcha mixture over the milk, allowing it to create a layered effect.
07
Stir gently before drinking to combine all flavors.
08
Optionally, top with whipped cream and dust with a little matcha powder.
